Contains photographs of the following military units and organizations: Fifth Army (5th), VI Corps, 4th Army. General description of the collection: The John P. Lucas photograph collection consists of career photos commencing with him as a major general commanding the IV Corps and later the 4th Army. All of this collection was printed from negatives. None of which were annotated except for very general captions such as Sicily, Anzio, and the Italian campaign. Many photos are of Lucas in the field with principal officers like Dwight D. Eisenhower and Mark Clark. Many photos show the progression of the invasion of Italy and the 5th Army fighting northward toward Rome. There are photos of captured German army personnel and many civilians in the towns conquered and occupied.
